Rylen and Mia’s 12-Week Jump: From Rec Soccer to Competitive Confidence

Some players train because they want to improve.

Some players train because they are trying to reach a new level.

For Rylen and Mia, it was both.

Rylen and Mia both play with Arizona Arsenal, and when we started working together, they were coming from the rec program with the goal of moving into the competitive side of the club. Rylen was 7, Mia was 9, and both of them needed the same thing most young players need when they are trying to make that jump.

They needed more confidence.

They needed more technical ability.

They needed to feel like they belonged at the next level.

Over 12 weeks, we worked on building the foundation that would help them feel ready to compete. The focus was on their touches, passing, turning, ball control, and comfort under pressure. At that age, technical development is not just about doing moves. It is about helping players feel calm enough to actually use the ball when the game speeds up.

That became the biggest goal.

Rylen and Mia both had to learn how to control the ball with more purpose. They worked on receiving, turning away from pressure, passing with better technique, and becoming more confident when the ball came to their feet. Session by session, you could see the difference.

Their passing became cleaner.

Their turns became sharper.

Their touches became more controlled.

Their confidence started to show.

That is the most important part for young players making the move from rec to competitive soccer. The game changes quickly. Players close space faster, decisions matter more, and the ball cannot feel like something to panic over. A player has to be able to receive it, control it, and make the next action.

Rylen and Mia started building that ability.

And the work paid off.

Both players made competitive teams for the 2026-2027 season. Rylen also earned a spot on the U8 first team, which is a huge accomplishment and a great reflection of how much progress he made.

That kind of jump does not happen from one session.

It happens through consistency.

It happens from showing up every week, learning the details, and slowly becoming more comfortable with the ball. It happens when players start to believe they can play at that level.

That is what I am most proud of with Rylen and Mia.

Not just that they made the teams, but how they carried themselves through the process. Their attitude toward soccer has been amazing. They came in willing to learn, willing to work, and willing to keep trying even when the details were difficult.

Because this was before I tracked their development with my full testing system, this story is not about percentages or stat sheets.

It is about visible growth.

It is about seeing two players go from the rec program to competitive teams.

It is about watching their technical ability improve.

It is about seeing their passing and turning become much sharper.

It is about watching them step onto the field with more confidence than they had before.

Rylen and Mia still have a lot of soccer ahead of them, but this 12-week block was a major step in the right direction.

They wanted to reach the competitive level.

They worked for it.

And now they are there.
